Ok you need to locate the species find a good position in relation to lighting and maybe the bird will pass by within lens range.

Sandhill Cranes are rather like London Buses no sign of them then they all arrive at once.

500000 didn't count them in but the noise indicated they were all calling at once heading for the sandbanks roost.

Canon 1D3 canon 800mm full frame tripod cable release. 500 shots and even the bad ones I'm reluctant to delete. I'll post an example.

I'm very keen to read your comments advice critique.

Thanks for looking.

Further to the details I have set out above I have this same subject displayed on a laptop and a PC widescreen high res the PC even though I say it myself looks great. The laptop looks washed out. So clearly its not an even playingfied. From the display point of view.

As the light faded I started to change settings and came up with failures that still have artistic merits to my eye what do you think? Or am I kidding myself?

Thanks for looking.

The first shot, takes me back to when I was at Bosque Del Apache, my only comment I would make is that I feel it needs a base/horizon, otherwise an excellent capture, well seen and taken, and thanks for bringing back the memories, particularly the chilly burgers @ the “Owl Bar”.

The second shot is a bit too pictorial for me, but I like the idea and the experimentation.

Hi Barry,

Really like the first one! I would perhaps crop a little off the bottom loosing the 3 stray birds. Not too keen on the second, I think because the blur is above the bird rather than showing the direction of movement.

Hi Barry,

I like the first one. It's a very nice scene and well taken. I agree with Lewis about the second one though, but I certainly like the idea.
