My wife and I hiked up to the Loch in Rocky Mountain National Park this morning for sunrise. Last time I was there (November last year) was a bust - completely the wrong time of the year, light-wise.
This morning, however, was astonishing - probably one of the best light shows I've ever seen. Not sure that I captured it that well however. The winds were ferocious (no change from November in that regard) and static foregrounds were difficult to find.
The sun should stay at good angle for this location for the next couple of weeks.
I love the Loch area especially in that magic light. Try sunrise from west Glacier Knob in a pano format, you get Longs, Thatchtop and Sharkstooth/Taylor massif all in one!
Awesome clouds and color! And Glacier Knob is the best viewing spot for that entire valley with some interesting foreground rocks and twisted pines. Last time I was there there was a crazy blizzard so I have nothing to prove my point
I hear you all on the foreground! Trouble was, where we ended up standing (bracing for balance against the wind!), there wasn't much going.
Thanks for the great suggestions on where best to be positioned. I'm now wondering how soon I can get back there. Although the 2am start from Boulder remains something of a deterrent, the light was just amazing and I'd love to get a killer shot of it...

I too find the light on the clouds to be wonderful. But like Dan said above, I would like more at the bottom of the image.
