Lost Creek
Like Aleks, I decided to take a hike into Lost Creek on Saturday. These are a couple shots from my LX3.

Just after my shot above, it started to rain. It rained the rest of the time I was in there.

Wow, what a wild looking landscape--ive been meaning to check this area out for a while now and this really gives me incentive, thanks for sharing!

Sweet! I didn't really get anything interesting as far as landscape but you rocked it with that first one.

Yeah, that first one's a killer shot.

The first one works perfect for me, there's a lot of depth to it.

Thanks guys. The only bad thing about the LX3 is the dynamic range in the RAW files is a few stops short of a DSLR. I didn't use GND because of the valley layout and blew out the clouds on the upper left. :frown:

I shot from that spot with my 4X5 with Fuji NPS, but was using a much longer lens focusing on the details of the cliffs and the disappearing creek. After my second LF shot the rain had started, so I ran out of time to switch lenses and grabbed the first shot with the LX3 as I packed. I guess I'll just have to go back and do it again. I think this could be a sweet spot for a summer afternoon shot and there is another spot further up the canyon I think could be even better.

I recognize both spots. What a special place! The first image backs that up. Did you climb down into the valley at all? There used to be a ladder down there.

Hey Jesse. I talked to a ton of people who were there after reading your "Around Colorado" trip report from 2004, which I have to say was an excellent writeup!

I didn't climb down into the valley below #1 because the rain was moving in pretty quick. I still wanted to check out where the creek comes back out of the boulders, so I decided to save that for a future trip. And I still got soaked. I'm thinking of backpacking in there this weekend, hoping to photograph some of the spotted coralroot orchids in bloom 1:1 with my 4X5.

Glad to see you made it in to the shafthouse. This is a really cool area. It's always on my short list. I've got some big plans for the area if I can ever get the time.

Let's get together one of these days and I'll take you up to Harmonica Arch.
Love the green around the stream!

#1 is awesome, Mel - it really shows the true character of LCW. Thanks for sharing this!

I like the soft light and colors in the first image.

Not sure how I missed this. #1 is fantastic, Mel. Some creative cloning would handle that blown spot.
