A Smew(C), I think this lends itself nicely to B&W.
This is a photo of contrasts, balck and white, smooth and still water
joined by the bird.

Oh yes! This floats my boat. This works SO well on so many levels - the choice of b&w for a start, but the composition and timing are excellent too. This is a lovely image that rewards continued scrutiny.

Hi Tim,

I agree with John here, this is a cracker! The mirrored reflection of the head is fantastic and then the tones of the ripples around and behind the bird top it off. A little tight in the frame, but I don't think it would have the same impact with more room. Very well executed!

Cheers,

Lewis.

The graphic markings of the smew really help this work. The water looks fantastically inky!I'm not as enthusiastic as the others because for me there is an element missing - that little bit of magic/spark (sorry, I can't put my finger on it). That said, it is nice to see this theme developing from the Mark Sission/John Swift posts - so well done for coming up with an illustration of the topic.

Cheers,
Chris

Stunning B&W!
I have similar shots of Smew in my portfolio and have been thinking of converting them to B&W many times.
Love the reflection and waves.

Well done!

What a superb shot. It took me a couple of seconds to realise what I was looking at. The wake behind and the ripples before really break up the water. Full of style - reminds me of a fashion shoot.

Really nice shot Tim! The bow wave and the reflection make this for me. I think the whites could do with just a little more punch (I think they could be a bit whiter without losing detail) But that could just be me and my crappy laptop monitor

This on certainly grabs the eye, and demands scrutiny as the diametrically opposed angles draw you to the subjected focus point. not sure if the crop is a little tight. :toast:

There have been some cracking images on here lately and suddenly they are all colourless. A sure sign that creativity is not lacking on this forum. A beautiful image.
