A Sad Sight
I went to Ranworth Broad a couple of evenings ago to try and get a decent picture of a Great Crested Grebe. I had not bargained on seeing one of my favorite birds in such a plight.

The Grebe was struggling to remove the band and at one point I thought it would actually manage it but sadly it didn't. The band didn't appear to be stopping the Grebe from feeding but it was obviously irritated by it as it constantly nagged at the band.

I've not posted for C&C ( I know I could have handled the lighting better!) but more as an illustration of the adverse affect carelessly discarded items can have on our wildlife. I realise I am preaching to the converted here btw!

That is a very sad sight Dennis. I wonder if it is worth contacting the RSPCA? In the past I have heard of them coming out to help swans entangled in plastic bags etc.

Oh that is a sad sight. Hopefully the peeps at Ranworth Broad would have noticed this too and contacted the RSPCA, though I'm not sure how they would catch it to free it. I hope it doesn't get caught on something. Perhaps the band will perish in the water and come off by itself. :frown:

(Love Ranworth Broad - great place...!)

Makes you wonder how the hell it managed to get it around it's neck... Sure it will be alright though...

A beautiful but very disturbing image Dennis, and I can imagine your horror upon finding it. There are so many thoughtless folk out there! I am sure it will be fine, but it is a worry all the same.
