I went to a local office park last spring to try out my new Tamron 200-500,on my D200,w/a monopod knowing I would see either mallards or geese. Not exactly artful or exotic species, I was merely going to practice with a new lens.
Well, I was treated to this strange behavior by all four in the pond. They would be swimming in no particular direction and then start barrel-rolling through the water. It didn't seem to be directed at one of the others, therefore I assumed it's not a mating ritual.(How does one differentiate a male from a female?)
I didn't see any feathers floating about or being loosed in the fray, so molting is out of the question?
Any help would be appreciated. All c/c welcome as well
