Puffin

Just a quick simple portrait shot of a puffin on the farnes from last week for those who have been enquiring this is the sort of thing you should be coming back with, taken on staple just off the landing area straight after disembarking,a tad tight but there is a blue barrier rope in the way which means you have to very low which makes moving difficult!

Nikon D3,500F4afs/2,ISO 400,1/1000TH F8,TRIPOD

Great illustration of the species but I find it a little bright and a tweak in the levels offers a better saturation of colours and more contrast. The exposure in terms of detail in B&Ws it spot on albeit a little hot at this res above the eye, nicely controlled and executed.

I agree with the above comment but I think you've done an excellent job with exposing the black & white :toast: :toast:

Puffin Repost

A little more adjustment and darkning, slight loss in detail!

Craig

This is really interesting I have the images displayed on my laptop and on a PC high res monitor. The loss of detail in the whites is far greater on the laptop. The PC reproduces an excellent image.

Lovely photo craig. I think I actually like the brightness of the original post more, but either is good.

Missed this one Craig. well all I can say is on my work laptop that is all over the place display-wise, this looks fantastic colour and brightness-wise  Like you say a bit tight, but sometimes can't be helped. The exposure looks great too on the whites which usually means the sun wasn't out. Was it ducking behind a tiny thin cloud just at the riight moment? Must get to the Farnes one day but for me it's 4 day trek!!!
