Roxborough State Park had one of their occasional sunrise openings this morning. There were around eight cars waiting for the ranger to open up at 5am, so nothing too crowded.
Clouds near the horizon meant there was only around one minute of light before the sun was blocked. However, it re-emerged 20 minutes later, so the morning was not a disaster. Plenty of lupine in bloom at the moment, but not too much else.
Alice and I were there last night scouting the place out and a decent sized black bear was hanging around for a good hour or so. Another bear (or more likely the same one) was hanging around near the access road this morning on the way back in. Reports also (via one the rangers) of a mountain lion and two cubs being seen in the park around a week ago.
Stephen, I was there a couple years ago at the same location. Light was harsh too, but I think you did a great job. All the elements are well placed and the detail/textures are wonderfully presented.
Thanks for the comments everyone - nothing beats hearing the reactions of other eyes to your images. The first image I posted was the only one I ended up working on that was a single exposure - I'd tried some blending to manage the contrast in all the others. For whatever reason, after working on them for a couple of hours, I thought the blended images looked a bit overcooked, so posted the single exposure above.
Anyway, I resurrected this shot too: this was from that brief burst of red light right at sunrise (could have used more than one minute). Contrast is much more manageable, but there's not much to be done with that sky, I fear.

I wasn't aware they ever did the sunrise thing from time to time.

That high contrast light makes it tough to include the valley, but you did well.
