Corn Lilies
If the rest of this summer's weekend trips are as productive as this last one, I'm never going to get through all of 'em on ESS. So while I usually post images here that I'm not really feeling great about, here's one I very much like. (Side note.. why are the other regional forums so much more active compared to this one!?). Anyways, here's a psuedo-abstract of some Corn Lilies next to Minaret Lake.

Well done, Floris! I've never seen a Corn Lily composition like this.
I like the way that you composed the rock diagonally. The bluish-
gray of the rock also works well with the green in the Lilies. You
found a nice patch of Lilies with none of them dying or falling apart.

I don't know if you have seen Joe Dirt the movie but he had a pet rock/ meteorite  All jokes aside.

I love the way those things reflect the light. Even the small ones growing out of the sludge looked cool.

Floris,

I really like this corn lilly image, especially with the inclusion of the rock - it really makes this a bit unique. I wouldn't call this an abstract though. I love the luminance glow on the lillies. Although not necessarily an improvement, I see a square crop coming down from the top.... and even though this would create an equal "volume" of space between rock and lillies, the glow in the leaves would still dominate. No matter, I still love this capture.

This is a great motivator as I hope to do some of my own corn lillies in another week or so....

As far as activity on CANP... this is California isn't it? We have so many distractions and choices that I fear the nature forum might suffer from competition...

Wonderful image.

Floris, although I do not recall seeing these in the field in a nice cluster, at least not dead ones or on thier way out, with that said this scene is really gorgeous. The rock or boulder is a perfect addition here, but my interest really is in the quality and beauty of the corn lillies themselves. Very nice. :toast:

Thanks folks!

Steve - I know... I almost took a picture of those

Lon - I totally don't think in squares, but I see what you're saying. Have a blast on your trip with the lilies, they're so beautiful!

I like the simple yet general shapes of the elements captured here. I really like the extreme top down view you took this from... you must have had a tough time hiding the tripod legs? Good stuff!
