About an hour before low tide. One of the few times we actually saw the sun.

Rod, I'm sorry to hear that mother nature didn't cooperate with good weather for you. This shot looks much like the coast I remember.
I was fortunate to spend a week on the Maine coast in the summer of 2007. It has some beautiful spots and quaint little fishing villages to explore. We didn't spend much time in Acadia NP but did spend the day in Bar Harbor, a day for the gals!
Just curious, the first several minutes after sunrise or sunset the glitter path is typically more gold or orange. Is it lighter because you needed to expose more for the rocks or was the photo taken a bit later?
I too have heard many good things about this region of the country. I'll bet you had a great time...
It appears that a little ghosting may have clouded the top half of the image, but doesn't detract too much. What I think might have really improved this would have been to include some sky and water in the distance to give the image more depth, then blend several exposures into one.
Don,
This washing out of the sun glitter path was due to over exposure to get the detail on the rocks. I hope to go back and blend a couple of images to get the exposure right.
One other element is that the sun was shinning through a dense fog.
Bill,
You're right. This image does lack the depth normally afforded to a coastal shot. I hope to go back and get this right when there is a little less fog.
