Puffin(Head shot) +repost(crop)
Another puffin shot,a little different, was trying to achieve a slightly more abstract shot which I think I've achieved here but there is room to crop more for a different view!
Skomer,Wales

Hi Craig
Like the approach and I think you've pulled off a great looking image. Must have been an accommodating individual judging from the 300 mm - the level of detail is awesome.
Cheers,
Chris

An excellent close up, well seen and visualised.

Works well for me, only slight improvement for me anyway (its easy for me to say sat here in front of the screen) would be for a touch more DoF, just to bring in the lower beak and the patch of grey plumage, that really is a minor nit....

I do like the bold colours of this little chappie. Perhaps a more tighter crop to be even more abstract Craig?

The little bit I do find distracting is the green BG which I find my eye being drawn to, but that is only my thought :wavey:

Hi All

Just to show you the cropped version which I prefer.
The skomer puffins are very close!!But care still has to be taken not to disturb them!

Excellent shot, so much detail and lovely pose too. I presonally prefer the first shot, as the second is just to tight in the frame. I'm sure that area of green could be toned down a little fairly simply. All in all an excellent close up!

Like Dawn, I too prefer the first image as it gives just a nice amount of space but i understand your reasons for a tighter crop. Agree with Phil re slightly more DOF just to get that bit of detail in the lower mandible and 'chin'..

Could have wiped his bill first..

Two superb versions Craig, but I too prefer the first for the space. Lovely stuff!!

Hi Craig,

Looks like we've all been hammering the puffins! I never get bored of them..

I think the composition is great in this from a photographic perspective, I also think you could have maybe done with a little better light. There are some very well known American photographers who are really good at these sorts of close up personal portraits, and they always have the best light.. I think your struggling with the whites around the neck a little, but its still very nice.

I prefer the first image as it gives a little more room to breath second looks too tight and I want to sit back in my seat when viewing it.

Very nice image, however I think it would have been transformed with some better light - can't have it all though I guess!
