I am not big in entering photo competitions, but I have always wondered what are the big and serious nature photogrpahy (landscape and/or travel/adventure/culture photography) competitions that people really pay attention to

Thoughts? Comments?

right..Georg..you got me  I don't compete with pros who are hands down much better than me
I like to look at the photos that have own prizes - I have been compiling a list for such good competitions. May be I should share it and see if anyone wants to add or comment

I think the Shell Wildlife competition?, Nature's Best and Communication Arts are probably the best.

The ANZANG Nature comp is well regarded here.
http://www.anzangnature.com/

It is not restricted to photographers that live here, just that the images have to be from here, from their site:
"ANZANG is focused on the unique natural heritage of the bioregion of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea – continents and islands cast from the great southern continent of Gondwana Land over fifty million years ago in which, due to long periods of isolation, remarkable flora and fauna have evolved."

Arnab,

The Banff Mountain Photography competition carries weight in North America. Marc Adamus and Darwin Wiggett are previous winners.

Nothing is tougher than this http://www.imagesforconservation.org/2010+Pro-Tour

I've competed in the first two contests and will compete again in 2010 and it's incredibly grueling..

You can see the images produced on the website....
