The bar just keeps getting higher and higher in the Fauna Gallery (and I'm sure in the other NPN galleries, too)! This week I truly wish I could have 3 images share the Pick of the Week honours. The three images I'm referring to are (in chronological order of posting):
1. Pat Sampson's "Play". This wonderful image is just one in a series of Kit fox kits that Pat has posted over the last few weeks. Pat's timing was impeccable in this action shot - great action, cute subjects, and masterfully captured in a wonderful setting - what more could you ask for?
2. Anthony Gibson's "The Pounce". In this image, Anthony documented a very, very rarely seen (and less commonly photographed) act of predation - a wild lynx leaping at an panicking duck on the edge of a small pond. Anthony used split-second timing to capture the lynx in mid-pounce and he promises to keep us enthralled with several more images in the series in coming weeks. Already looking forward to seeing them Anthony!
3. Ajit Huilgol's "Come No Further!". This is another amazing image - in it, Ajit captured an exceptionally rare (and endangered) adult Indian Wolf in mid-bark as it warned him away from coming any closer as Ajit was tracking a family of four wolves. You have to check this shot out - Ajit timed his capture perfectly and ended up producing an ethereal, almost dream-like action shot. It must have been the week for action shots of rarely seen species of wildlife!
Almost unfortunately, I had to elevate one of these images above the others and make it the Pick of the Week. I chose Pat Sampson's "Play", as it not only combined perfect timing in capturing action (as all 3 shots did) but also added the element of major cuteness - all while evoking a strong emotive response from almost anyone who has the pleasure to view it. Congratulations Pat!
Of course, there were several other images posted in the Fauna Gallery that deserve an honourable mention and a good look, including...
Of course, this is just a few of the great images posted in the last week - my apologies to those I've overlooked. Thanks to all who posted images and/or comments in the last week...

Many thanks for the pick this week, especially given the images posted.
I plan to keep going back and shooting these guys on the weekends until they're grown or as long as they'll let me. Most fun I've had in a while.
