Hi
I'm having a problem with my Raw files: I normaly use Capture NX for processing my Raw's, but now that I have PS CS3 with Camera Raw I would like to use it...
Tha same image open in Capture NX is COMPLETELY diferent in terms of color, saturation etc, etc(for worse, much worse) in Adobe Camera Raw. Am I missing something?
Thanks for your help

Fernando - That's to be expected, since the programs have completely different defaults and assumptions about how to "develop" or process the RAW file. Do you have a Nikon camera? If so, Capture NX is probably using the settings from your camera, to try to reproduce what the JPG settings in your camera would be.

This same kind of thing can be reproduced with the Adobe camera profiles - although I don't know if they're available in the CS3 version. Adobe camera profiles Or you can adjust some of the settings in ACR to taste, then save them as the defaults.

Fernando:
No one talks about this problem with RAW programs. All raw software programs (non-manufacture) can only read certain parts of the raw file. When you make different adjustments to you photo in camera, the non-manufacture raw software program can not read all the settings. Capture NX can read all your Nikon camera settings, PS can not. It is the same with Canon and other brands. If you want to take advantage of the in camera adjustments you need to open the file in that camera brands software and then save as tiff, jpg or psd file.

Fernando,

I used to have exactly the same problem with CaptureNX and Lightroom. With Lightroom 2 they introduced the same Adobe Color Profiles that David mentions. Once I started using them I was hard pressed to tell the difference between a raw image displayed in CaptureNX versus the same image displayed in Lightroom.

Thanks a lot for your replys and for your help. :wavey:
Unfortunately, Adobe Camera Profiles will only work with ACR 4.5, I have only the previous version 4.4 :frown:
Thank you anyway

Hi, I have all in camera adjustments turned off. If I am going to shoot raw, and use ACR, then why would I need any in camera adjustments?

Chris - The in-camera adjustments in that case will only affect the image shown on the back of the camera, or possibly the JPG preview image pulled out of the RAW file. ACR will ignore all settings and however you develop the RAW file will be all that affects the final image.

G'day Fernando. I used to have your exact problem. I use a Nikon D80 and trialled Capture NX software. It certainly did process the raw files as per my camera settings (brighter, more vivid color), but if you get Lightroom 2.3 you'll get the latest profiles, which include most Nikon cameras.
