Puffin in thrift
Another one from Shetland.

As hard as I tried, out of all the hundreds of Puffins I saw over the week, I could probably count the ones I saw with sandeels on one hand, they were hardly anywhere to be seen.

That's interesting, Tim. On the Isle of May I was noticing about 95% coming in with bills full. A huge percentage compared to Skomer.

I thought the colder waters of the North Sea should be more productive.

Latest research shows seabirds having another rough year.

Sorry, although different, the OOF foreground just doesn't work for me.

It's a great idea but I too feel that the Puffin is to low in the frame and just a tad more height in your position would have had the head/beak clear of the thrift which would have made this a stronger image IMO. I do like the colour and OOF nature of the foreground detail but comp not quite there.

Kind regards,

I think this would work better either by, as Brett says above, more height in the Puffin, or, the OOF foliage to be LESS out of focus - I think that the Puffin face and beak looking out over the top of the colourful foliage would look ok, different.

I think as it is it just does not quite work for me

cheers

Love the idea, but have to agree with Brett's comments.

Great image, I think the blur works and looks great on my monitor!
