I've lurked for years on this site and recently decided it was time to jump into the fire. When critiquing, please, only the brutal truth.
I recently spent 3 nights and 4 days in the Rito Alto Drainage with friends within the great Sangre De Cristo Wilderness. We camped at 12,500-ft and climbed a bunch of mountains while there.
My first submit was shot at sunset from 13,200-ft along "Silver Peaks" west ridge looking north to Cottonwood Peak. Its a three image stitch. Some of you know that sunsets in the Sangres have a real mystical quality unmatched by other mountain ranges. The saturated light that beams across the San Luis Valley is addicting, to say the least.
I agree with Paul, really nice first post, no nits at all from me!. The layers remind me of the Blue Ridge mountains, except of course these are alot more jagged!. Welcome to RMNPN!.
Fantastic first post, Kane! I love the warm light and the layers of mountains visible all the way to the horizon. Welcome to the group. I look forward to your contributions.
Let me tell you a little something about Kane. When I first came across him on summitpost.org, he was your typical avid peak-bagger who happened to carry a point & shoot camera with him on his climbs. Those days are long gone! Kane has become one of my favorite photographers, going to great lengths (and heights!) to get to some of the most obscure, inaccessible and remote locations, and coming home with absolutely brilliant photos. As you can tell by this post, he's also a big fan of the panoramic image, which is another feather in his cap, imho.
Welcome to the RMNP 'hood, Mr. E! Can't wait to follow your contributions here. You might want to post a link to a few of your summitpost pages so people can see what I'm talking about.
Welcome!
The brutal truth, eh?
Well, the light here is superb, as are the layered mountains and color.
Great job with the stitch, as well. Pano format is just right for this image.
Brutal enough?
Feel free to comment on others' work here if you get a chance.
So, where do you live?
First of all, welcome! And second, excellent image. I'll ehco what has already been said and say that I too love the layers in the image and the color. Great shot and again, welcome to the forum.
Welcome Kane, great to see you here finally! I was going to say something along the lines of what Todd said, but he put it perfectly. I've been crossing paths and corresponding with Kane for years on a number on hiking and climbing websites, and have always been impressed, with both his insane climbing skills and resume, as well as the images he brings back! Oh, and that pano rocks!
Can't say much more than what's already been said. A wonderful shot. If I was too get real nit-picky I'd say it would be nice to have just a little more sky on top as the upper right mountain is a bit too close to the upper edge for my tastes. That's about the only critque I can come up with. Can't wait to see more of your work.
Welcome! I love the light and color in this. It has a very graphic feel, which I love, but enough detail to know it's a photo. This needs to be printed VERY BIG!
Welcome Kane (what a cool name!) and what an image! What I find really attractive is the natural horizontal gradient and the soft layers. Will have to check out your link.
Beautiful pano Kane. The Sangres certainly are a special range. Their closer proximity has been one of my favorite things about my move from Lakewood to Colorado Springs. The Rio Alto drainage is a stunning area too. The great thing about the central Sangres is that few people are willing to do the work necessary to explore them, so there is some solitude in those mountains.
Kane...amazing job!!! Great first post...I really like the second link also.... keep posting.... welcome to the board.... people here are kind and helpful.... regards, Rajeev.
