I hope I am not making all of you sick of Herons and Egrets. I really do photograph other wildlife :)
I had the day off work and made my way out to see how the chicks were growing up. I found several of the BCNH chicks starting to take flight, but most of the snowy egret chicks were still hoping from limb to limb preparing their wings. I also hope I am improving on some of these. I have tried learning something with each shoot.
These are all just magnificent!
Not sure what more you can learn. Several of the compositions are sweet, and I admire the way you capture these white birds and still keep the exposure in check.
You must be using a great lens as the sharpness (esp. seen in #2) is very good. I wouldn't mind seeing camera settings for these images in the future. Are any of them cropped?
I admire you bird photographers greatly. It takes a lot of skill to be able to capture birds in midflight as well as these.
Thanks John! Yes, most are cropped, since I cannot afford the 500 f/4 yet (my dream lens). I use a Canon 50D and my first lens of choice is a 300mm f/4 and I commonly use a 1.4 tc with it. For the egrets, I find they are much easier to expose with a polarizer. Most of the time on a sunny day like this morning, I at at f/6.3 ISO 320 or 400 Exp at -2/3 to -1. I also find I commonly have to turn down the saturation with the polarizer being used. That was the big thing I changed this post. I thought my last images were over saturated. Thanks a lot for the feeedback! I have only been shooting since Feb of 2008.
Your BIFs are terrific Kurt. And no, I'm certainly not getting sick of seeing them. Please don't stop posting them. If you've only been shooting for year you're way ahead of the curve.
