Hi Paul,
I have the 14-24mm, it's extremely sharp, I suggest you locate David Clapps article, well worth the read.
I have recently purchased a PC-E 45mm, now these are also worth a study.
Thanks Tim I had a feeling that the 14-24mm f/2.8 was a cracker! That’s one beautiful image! I assume it was captured with your D3!
A PC-E 45mm, eh! I have been reading about those Tilt and Shifts and been pondering with the idea of getting one for my landscape and architectural work. I’ve never actually used one (yet) but have been tempted (however think I’ll put that on hold for a while if I get the D3X and the 14-24mm ). I will keep an eye out for your post using it!
Hi Andy, Yes I agree the D3X is quite expensive! Been lusting after a FF body for a while now and the choice seems to keep growing (D700, D3 and the D3X). Over the last couple of months I have been tearing my hair trying to decide. I am almost sick to death of reading reviews now!
I suppose the main reason for opting for the D3X is…
…MP (I know, I know, I can’t believe I’ve said that! But it’s stock everyone is wanting bigger and bigger files so hopefully this’ll shut them up for a while.
No CA on the 14-24mm – is that possible? I’m definitely getting one of those!
I have been using a couple of D3's with a number of different lenses for a year now and by a spooky coincidence, have just taken delivery today of a D3X.
I've sent you a PM as the mods don't like equipment discussions on the forum
I have been absent for a while now due to other commitments. I have popped in from time to time though!
I have been concentrating more on filming natural history apposed to photographing it (working on a long-term documentary). While I haven’t been filming I have been travelling (I’ve just come back from a month in the Mediterranean) in order to build up my travel stock!
However I have begun shooting wildlife and landscapes again so will be posting again shortly. Well as soon as my editing computer is working again! It keeps crashing at the moment and is causing me a major headache, as I have well over 56 hours of footage to edit and nearly 12,000 images! It crashed about a week before I left but haven’t been able to do anything until now.
Discussion
7 repliesI don’t want to start a debate about the D3X but I am interested in hearing from anyone who has one. Your personal thoughts and musings!
I am thinking of getting one for mainly landscape, travel and wide angle work so info on that would be greatly appreciated.
Also if you have used either of the following lenses then I would love to hear about CA, IQ and so forth.
Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 G AF-S ED Lens
Nikon 50mm f1.4 G AF-S Lens
Nikon 50mm f1.4 D AF Lens
Images would be nice to see (any subject matter!
Hope all is well with everyone!
Happy shooting,
Paul

IQ is stunning, CA is absent even in the toughest of tests.
D3X - well, I've tried one and wouldn't smash my piggy-bank for one at the moment; even if there was something in it.
If it was somewhat cheaper then perhaps things would be different
