spotlit barn owl
The barn owls that Mark and I have been photographing have raised four youngsters of which this is one. Today at last we managed to get within range of them without too much trouble and they were happy to pose for us.
Everything that Rob Howard told me would happen has come to pass, so thanks for the good advice Rob. For months we were convinced that there was only one adult bird here but recently the female and the chicks emerged and now we have six to enjoy!
They seem to be well advanced and are flying from branch to branch within the tree that contains the nest.
Unfortunately they flatly refused to sit anywhere with a dull even Bg so for this shot I deliberately under-exposed and waited for the dappled sunlight to hit its face. Even so the whites only just held.
Hope you like it. I can see why Major spends so much time photographing these birds, they are just beautiful.

excellent shot, I have a pair of Great Horned Owls in my woods, only they never let me get close enough for a great shot. But they are enormous and just beautiful.

Hello Eric.

Always nice when things finally come together and this was very nice. Just love the light catching the owl.

Might just clone out the two bright marks just belowe the owl.
