Moonlight Meadow
Shooting in the high desert at Moab was fun, but it was a welcome relief to escape to the cool La Sal Mountains for a couple afternoons while we were there. It was amazing - the temperature in the mountains was about 55 while in Moab it was near 100. Moab is sure a cool place - where else can you be in high desert and in half an hour be in the mountains?

The aspens were vibrant green, and quite a few wildflowers were blooming but they seemed to be in patches and not widespread. This was shot in the Moonlight Meadow area.

I hope we can make it back up there in the fall sometime because I could sure see the potential for fall colors with the aspen groves and scrub oaks in such plentiful supply.

Great location and image.

I can say that the La Sal Mountains are great in the fall. Be sure to check out Warner Lake.

Did you get a chance to get over to Canyonlands?

Aspens sprout from roots of older trees. That is why they tend to grow in clusters. While they produce seeds, sprouting from roots is the most common form of reproduction.

Looks like blue cornflowers in the foreground. Lovely place.

Nicely done Angela,

Were the trees actually leaning/growing to the right? While it is apparent this is a hillside I can't help but wonder if the camera was level. Would it look better if the trees were vertical?

Utah wouldn't be the first place to come to mind when seeing this image. Angela, you're making me wish we'd have gone to the LaSal's while in the Moab area last May. Nice splash of color with the wildflowers and greens of summer.

Larry makes a good observation, were the trees leaning uphill? Thanks for sharing.

Nice composition, although the leaning trees do seem a bit odd. I would also like to see this scene with a little more dramatic light...seems a little flat. Thanks for sharing some of that cool, dry mountain scenery!

This is a wonderful area and you have captured it nicely. When I visited this area things were really dry and pretty much bust. You have gotten a lot of great images from your trip, congrats!

It does seem a little tilted and you might consider a little tweak in LAB mode to really make things pop.
