D3 + 600 AFS II f4D.
1/8000 @ f4.
Ex Comp -1.7EV.
ISO 400.
WB: Auto.
AF Area Mode Dynamic 9 points.
Hand Held.
Nearly missed this one as I was laid on the floot doing Muntjac when this one flew over. Caught it on its return flight and quickly set the ex comp to -1.7EV to stop the facial disc burning out in rather strong light. No time to put it on tripod so fired off a few hand held.
Not for long mind you.
Superb light on this and really sharp too. These are difficult in my neck of the woods, but I was with my family in the car last night and one was hunting just over a fence from us. Stopped the car and had a great view for half a minute or so. Too dark for a shot though (+no camera!), but great experience.
Nice work Major, a bit of a halo around the bird on my monitor but minor when compared to the overall image.. Not sure the comp sits right in my opinion. Really nice capture nonetheless and well seen and taken.

I reckon a long horizontal might suit this one too.
Another gem.
