Black Tailed Skimmer
To kill some time waiting for one of these guys to land on a suitable perch, I thought I'd try for a in flight shot. Glad I wasn't using film, It would of cost hundreds to get the one sharp shot!

Nikon D3
Sigma 180 macro
800iso
500th
f8
hand held
manual focus
75% of frame

Good argument for digital then. Personally I would rate this higher than a perched shot any day.

Worth the increase in shutter count for sure. Was it in hover mode or were you panning? tricky with manual focus too but I guess not easy with AF either if you can't guarantee to have it in the frame.

Tony,

Looks great and well worked.. Should try some of these myself since they were being quite amenable..

Very notable shot Tony - the usual candidate for this is the Southern Hawker with its propensity for coming and giving you the "once over" - this would be a much more difficult subject and I can easily appreciate the skill.

Very nice :toast:

Good one, I kept thinking about it, but thats all I did

You can turn her off you know

Super image anyway, must be all that practice with bigger flying things

A very impressive shot Tony, nice one!

I was almost convinced that 'that woman' was me! The old brainbox isn't what it used to be :frown: Hope you have shut her up now

As for the bbq, you will be more than welcome, once I move!!
