Marbled White - First post!
Hi everyone

I've been watching the posts on this group for about 6 months now and I am extremely impressed with the quality of the photographs.

I attended the Slimbridge conference back in February, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so have now decided to bite the bullet and post some of my images. I hope one day that I will be as good as the members on here.

First off is a Marbled White I photographed last week in the evening light.

Comments and critisms very welcome. Be gentle!!

Canon 40D, Canon 100mm f2.8 macro. ISO 250, 1/500sec @ f4.

Hi Ian

Welcome to the forum - a very nice first image. I love the soft light, BG and detail. I don't normally like too much OOF FG or not being able to see the whole butterfly but in this image it doesn't overly bother me!

Hi Ian

Welcome to the forums!

Slightly different take using the flowers as foreground, I quite like it. We could all argue about how it shouldn't be half buried in the flowers, or how we should have picked the most sterile perch possible to give the clearest and sharpest view, etc etc. But forgetting all that I find this a very pleasing image.

Hello Ian - excellent first post imo :toast:

Nice sharp, clear detail where it matters and a super background.

Family name is Butler on my mothers side - we might be related - God help you if we are :jump: :jump: :toast:

Hi Ian,

Nice to see you posting

Great first image, I really like the DoF, gives the image an almost dreamy feel, great detail in the butterfly too!

Looking forward to more.

Lewis.

Hi Ian, an excellent first post. Sometimes too much OOF foliage can be a bit overpowering in a shot like this but I think this works really well. I also think it has a dreamy feel to it, like the butterfly is sat on a cloud.
