Took a drive with my daughter up to Steamboat Lake-Hahns Peak area to scout out the wildflowers and found mostly Mules Ears in abundance. While there she asked if I wanted to see the place where she and her high school friends used to go to once in a while, called King Solomon Falls. Of course I'm ready to check out anyplace that has falls...
The falls are actually on the Middle Fork of the Little Snake River below its confluence with King Solomon Creek. From the trailhead, it's about a half mile hike on a unmaintained trail of rocks, scree, downed timber, and brush---not far but rugged.
We arrived in early afternoon so the light wasn't the greatest. Nevertheless, here's a couple of pictures I made for those who are interested in making the trek.
There's another falls farther upstream but that will have to wait for another trip when I'll be there for early or late light to take maximum advantage of this mostly north facing stream. I'd be happy to share directions to this place.
That falls looks like it would be fun to kayak over and the stream bed looks like there's enough water to paddle down it as well. I'll have to keep this in mind the next time I'm up there with my kayak.
