More than two years had passed since the last major revision to my web-site and I felt it was time for a change. In the re-designed version, I have chosen to simplify things further, so that the main emphasis is on showcasing the photos. I invite all of you to take a peek and let me know your thoughts on the photos, presentation, layout, navigation, etc.
I have thought about adding some on-line shopping feature and have looked at a few options such as PayPal and Google Checkout. However, I am not sure how useful this will really be and was hoping for some advice on this subject.
Looks good, Anil. Very clean and straightforward to use.
Two very small suggestions:
1. Make the headings/subheadings bold to make the text more scannable (mainly applies to the prints page).
2. Make the links stand out from the regular text, whether by giving them a slightly different colour, underlining/bolding them, or whatever.
I think your site is very "to the point." It is pleasing to look at and pleasing to use.
I am thinking of setting up a site and would liketo emulate your site. If it ia not too much to ask, where did you buy the domain and how did you design the site?
The simpler the better, IMO. My only suggestion would be to add page numbers (such as Page 1 of 2, etc) in the individual gallery pages so the viewer would know where they were in the gallery and if there was more than a single page.
From what I remember your previous version was also simple and basic so I'm not sure what the major revision was.
The site is clean, simple and easy to navigate. It also accomplishes what you were trying to do in showcasing the images.
With a small number of images that you have (48, I counted..) I don't think it's necessary to have 1 of 10 or 3 of 9 etc.... But I think either an "^" or "return to index" link to get back to the index of thumbnails might be helpful. Once you're viewing the larger image, you can't go back to the thumbs without going back to the main gallery page. But no biggie, simplicity may win out.
As far as a PP or Google checkout or payment link, ask and answer yourself this question:
Do I get lots of print requests via email or the contact link? If the answer is yes, then adding a payment option could streamline things for you. Otherwise, it may just be a nice feature that won't get used. With my major web revision a year ago, the shopping cart was the last thing to do, and I have yet to finish it. So you probably know how I answered my own question... :-)
Oh, one more thing. Up to you of course, but in your "about" section, you might want to include a simple copyright statement. Yeah, you have "copyright" at the bottom of every page, but it doesn't hurt to emphasize it. Just a thought.
Thanks for all the replies so far. I really appreciate the feedback.
Stephen: I got the domain name from my ISP. However, there are other domain name providers who can do the same. I built the site using Dreamweaver 8.
Lon: You can directly go from the larger image to the series index by clicking on the name of the portfolio (the upper left corner of the page). I do plan on explicitly saying "thumbnails" next to the portfolio name to make this more clear.
