Do a web search for "Drop shadow Tutorial for Photoshop" and you'll get several hits.
Not sure which one will make the most sense to YOU.

good luck!

Hi Cynthia,

It's really a simple task. I am using cs4 but believe this feature is still found in the same place. First make a copy of your background. You will then need to select "Window" then "Styles". The Styles pallet should open. Within the many different styles available just find, "basic drop shadow" and select it. (It will be one of the gray boxes with a drop shadow around it. A layer effect & drop shadow effect should then show up under your background copy layer in the layers pallet. Double click drop shadow to set your characteristics as desired. (Just play around with it a bit.)

Ok, now this is important. After you have created a drop shadow, lets say you made one of 10 px in size. It will Not show up Until you increase the canvas size of the image. So you will then need to increase the canvas ("Image", "Canvas Size") by at least 10 px (use white so your drop shadow shows up). And shazam! Drop Shadow.

I hope this gets you there. Have fun.
