We spent our 4th in Calico Rock right on the Piney Creek with many friends. We played lots of volleyball and cooked 120 lbs. of crawfish along with 30 pounds of pulled pork, a brisket, and a fried turkey. I believe we had nearly 100 people show up but it was hard to keep track.

I managed to sneak away early Friday morning and take a few shots of the lower end of the swimming hole.

The green reflection from the trees are particularly nice - looks like a very refreshing place to cool off. Sounds like a good place to eat too! Nice shot, Matthew.

Matthew, this is a very peaceful scene and the boat adds a great element to the scene. Sorry I did not comment earlier, for some reason your photo was not showing up at my office. I think maybe it is because you are linked to flickr.com and it is blocked by our server?

Different strokes I guess, I think I would prefer it without the canoe. Very peaceful scene.

Thanks Bill

Yea Tom I bet your office has a block on it. I actually paddled way upstream and then back down to this spot. I just had the camera slung over my neck and shoulder so not getting wet was top priority.

Larry I didn't try it without the boat in the shot. I was in flip flops and that boat is actually a little heavy and I was having a little trouble dragging it around. It is twelve feet long and larger than I am used to. Getting it out of the shot would have been a hassle.

I didn't tell, but this is a 5 shot HDR. I haven't really done HDR before (this Pentax makes it easy) but I think I like the results.

Nice take Matthew. I especially like the detail in the water and shadows. HDR is nicely done as well, not too heavy on the processing which is what I prefer.

There is more dynamic range in the shot with the HDR. It looks like you found a nice you found a really nice spot to camp. I'm glad your enjoying the new camera!

No camping for this one Aaron. A lucky few of us had a house with a big deck on a ridge facing south towards Mountain View. I didn't have to rough it for this one. Didn't you say that you had a K20D?
