I plan to be in Colorado from approximately
July 12 to the end of the month. Are there
some areas that you recommend where wildflowers
would be at peak during that time span? Also
if there are any other photographic areas of
interest other than wildflowers during July,
I would appreciate your suggestions. I should
add that I can do some fairly strenuous hiking,
but I am not set up for overnight backpacking
and camping.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Robert, be sure and check out the wildflower conditions updates at the top of the page on the RMNP forum.

Crested Butte, Yankee Boy Basin, American Basin, Maroon Bells. You pretty much can't go wrong anyplace above 8,000' in the south half of the state. The only places that wouldn't be at "peak" season at that time would be the front range and mesa/canyon areas, but those are under 8k anyway.

To keep it simple, I would either hit any of the basins in the San Juans (around Telluride), or anyplace around the West Elks (Crested Butte).

I was in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness visiting a new to me basin last week and found stronger wildflower conditions than I'd ever seen before in that range. They'll peak in late July. The San Juans are great, but don't discount other areas. I've found strong alpine flowers in the 10 Mile Range, Elks, Sangres, Tarryall and Front Range above 10,000 feet too.
