Linnet on Foxglove.
Canon 20D, Canon 500mm f4 & Canon 2X Extender,
1/400 sec @ f 8, iso 400, Raw.
Gitzo 1548/Manfrotto 501 video head.
Full frame.
Levels, hue/saturation.

Hi,

One from last week.
I noticed a group of foxgloves in the distance that were being used as a perch by a Stonechat.
As soon as the Stonechat left the perch to search for food on the ground I made a dash for it and got into position behind the tripod. Within a few minutes a Linnet decided to land on the foxglove instead of the Stonechat.
I stayed in position for a few hours and got lots of oppurtunities with the Linnets, and male and female Stonechats.

I havn't really had a proper look through them yet but this one ended up getting processed first.
I didn't realize untill looking up the Exif info but this was one of the few I took with a 2X Extender, 99% of the time I was using a 1.4X instead but swapped to the 2X just for a bit of variation really as I was running out of ideas once I'd got the portraits with the 1.4X in the bag.

LARGER VERSION

 Best I've seen of species, Justin. Somehow the large version is coming up small on my screen though.

Stunning  composition, detail, colours,BG are beautiful   :wavey:

Thanks Ian.
I've resized the large version to 1000 pixels on the long side so perhaps it's shrinking if it's unable to be displayed full size on a particular monitor's dimensions

Excellent Justin, a great bird on a fab perch, I think the 2X gets a bad press sometimes, I've found it is very sharp provided its properly suported, as has been the case for this shot.

 The wife says it's a clash of colours.. LOL! Typical! But for me it's quite an exquisite shot with some amazing detail and I find the colours really punchy.. Really nice work.

Good punchy image, where was the focus point as the Linnits head looking a bit soft. selection of crop is brilliant certainly fits well. :toast:

Focus point was on the eye Paul, but manually focused as the 2X extender disables auto focus on my camera. Eye is certainly in focus on the full size version but the compressed version looks particularly poor in comparison.

selection of crop

It's not been cropped  or did you mean composition.

Excellent shot. I like to colour palette personally (but have no dress sense ..) and the background is spot on. I've had variable results with the 2x on the 500mm but with good light it delivers ok.
