I've always had a soft spot for the portly woodpigeon. So many subtle colours and invariably overlooked. We don't see many on here, and after trying and failing miserably to get a full frame shot of one, I suddenly get them too close. Anyway inspired by that superb spotted flycatcher shot of Nigel Blake's, and because I like close-ups anyway, I have decided too post this one of a woodie doing what it does best - eating corn! it also looks like it has a defect in the pupil of its eye.

I appreciate that not everybody likes this kind of shot but C&C most welcome nonetheless.
I’m afraid it’s a case of missing the blindingly obvious Eric, they are there every day in the garden, along with sparrows, starlings and collared doves and I spend half the day out chasing owls. Nice shot and as you say it makes a welcome change.
Very nice Eric, I have a soft spot for Woodies (the ones at Titchwell are stupid tame) they have great subtle colour too!
That dark patch on the iris is common on most if not all Woodies, it's not a misshapen pupil, I do not know the current thinking on why it is like that though.
It's interesting that this should not be a defect because I got shots of a youngster at the same time and its eye appears 'normal', which presumably means that this distortion in the pupil appears as they grow.
Thanks for the kind comments folks.

There are couple that graze my lawn quite regularly. I don't use chemicals on the lawn, preferring the daisies, dandelions, clover and cowslips that frequent it and so do the bees as well.

Bob.
I love em.
Not a pupil defect by the way - they are all that shape.
Cheers
