Awesome work! Number three is an absolute killer shot. :toast:

These are great Morris, #3 is killer. Are you using a Macro lens for these?.
Posted by David Bartlett _CO on July 8, 2009 at 7:20 PM
All are fantastic! The DOF in #3 is spot-on.
What time of day were these images taken?
I will really have to work hard to surpass the quality of you're macro floral images. Simply awesome!

#3: Instead of "Natural Order," how 'bout "Kaleidoscope"?
These are really, really awesome, Morris.

Thanks guys.

Nick, my 28-135mm that is my workhorse has macro capability. It's a sigma. I chose it because the similar canon model I could afford at the time did not have macro capability.

David, I took these in the late evening with a mostly cloudy sky.

Todd, that works, too!

Nice work Morris. The darkening of the backgrounds appears very effective too!

All are very nice, but three takes it for me. :toast:

John, the road goes east off of Hwy. 83 just about a mile or so north of Franktown. It's called E. Park Rd. Then it's only about a half mile up that road with the park on your left. Park in the west lot, go throught the opening in the fence and follow the trail up the hill to the best flowers.

Very nice indeed!

Wow, nice stuff here, Morris. #3 is my fav, and the way you cropped it to square really works.

#3 is also my favorite. Great set!

Love both the first and third with a slight nod to the third. A wonderful collection all around.

A sheer pleasure for me to view over and over again.

Hey Morris, I really like your color on number 1, but along with everyone else, I like number 3 the best. Your choice for DOF is great, because it really shows the layers of the bloom. Terrific stuff! :jump:

All three are super sweet! I can't decide which one I like best, excellent isolation techniques to blur out what probably are busy backgrounds.

These are amazing, Morris! Gallery-worthy stuff, especially 2&3! :toast:

Great comps, but this is a case where it's important to know what your shooting. The four major species of thistle in the west are not native - therefore not "natural order". Invasive species cost billions of dollars per year to fight and are considered by many to be the number one threat to wildlife habitat, agriculture, and healthy, wild riparian areas. Our lands are being overrun by this silent invasion. So, I like #1 the best.

I hope you post #3 over in Flora sometime Morris. Great shot!

Wonderful flower macros! Keep it up, you're on a roll. :toast:
Posted by Morris McClung on July 9, 2009 at 4:26 PM
Dave, I know these aren't native and that they are as invasive a species as any in the
West. My title was actually refering to the order of the leaves. And though they are a weed they still are part of nature, if not from around here originally. (Neither am I  ) Thank you for your comment and I am at least glad I posted one native wildflower so you would like something I shot.

Morris these all rock but #3 has to be my favorite one. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Morris, it may be invasive but the pre-bloom on the thistle is absolutely stunning. Graet work on all of them.
