Heath on Heather.. (+ Repost)
One from the weekend.. They are far beyond their best now and so I was pleased to be able to spend time with them. This was taken whilst it was still in a shady position before it warmed and took to the wing. I also tried this at f16 to bring the flower buds at the top of the frame into focus but it didn't and any more DOF just brought the BG in so I concentrated on the B'fly more so.

Have a good day folks..

Brett

Just enough detail in tha background to suit my personal taste, and a lovely, delicate colouration that really brings out the detail in the flowers. I think I would have preferred the subject to be a little further right in the frame, but even so one of the nicest Heath Frits I have seen this year.

Good technical quality as usual, Brett, aesthetically I'd agree with David about the comp. The position of the head in the frame is unbalanced by the direction of the vegetation, top left. If this is cropped, perhaps reinstate some space to the left.
Nice species that I've not seen in the 'flesh'.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Guys,

I've had a quick look and yes I do have some more space to play with so I think this comp is probably about there. I don't think I want to take it any further than this but many thanks for your input, it's much appreciated.

Kind regards,

lovely image, repost is certainly an improvement i can't help but feel that it could go a bit further right, but each to there own, the light and setting are wonderful, i've never had any luck with butterflies never seem to stay still for long enough

Love the muted tones on this one - still a touch more off the right for me for a perfect comp but a really nice image.

I prefer the second. Plenty of interest in this well balanced shot.

a real beauty Brett, a lovely butterfly and perch. I also prefer the re-post and would have been tempted to go a little further to the right, but this is obviously entirely subjective.

Thanks folks, all your suggestions have been very useful and I have taken them all on board. Will re-work the image for comp and printing in future. Much appreciated.

Even better than what I saw on the back of your camera Brett. Sure is a beauty, composition of course is a personal choice. Superb stuff.

Hope to see you again soon.
