fairly run of the mill otter shot, just got back from 2 weeks in Shetland, the weather was almost continually sunny, which though fine for birds as you can just concentrate on the extreme ends of the day, unfortunately it is fairly unpredictable when i am able to actually find otters, and when wet they often look hideous in strong sunlight
clouded over on Monday though and i had a fairly productive session

Really very nice encounter Jack and well captured. Run of the mill or not there are still many of us that do not have something like this in our libraries so it's a privilege to view them when others have. A slight suggestion might be to reduce the highlights a little and a touch of saturation will just add a little more depth to the colour of both the algae and the otter. I'd be really happy with this, so very well done.
Much prefer the repost from a processing perspective Jack, and as Brett says a classic to have in your portfolio for sure.
Just back from 10 days there too so know what you mean about the weather - it was cloudier on Unst though which meant conditions were better for all day stuff, but I for one wouldn't have swopped some of the early and late sessions in stunning light for typical Shetlands drizzle!!
Interestingly enough Jack, when I drag your repost into PS it looks slightly better there than here..? I'm assuming it's another one of these 'save for web' anomalies. However, it is what I had in mind and looks better IMO. Either way Jack it's a great image and I like it very much.
Lovely image, Jack - I just saw my first Otter last month and can appreciate your joy. How common are they on the Shetlands ?

Thanks for the comments all,
Hi Helge,
if you are still there, Otters are incredibly common on Shetland and are pretty much everywhere where there is suitable habitiat, i heard quoted somewhere that Hascosay, a small island there, has the highest density of otters in europe or perhaps it was just britain.
