brilliant pose John, setting is great too, shame about the ring, if only the water were a little deeper, i was going to say i'd prefer it without the right hand foreground vegetation, but i think it might look a bit unbalanced without it

Thats what I was hoping you'd got John  beautiful, and a credit to you as these birds are very hard to find/see/photograph, I love them as you can see, and this is a lovely photography, nice catchlight in the eye   :wavey:

I'm afraid that scientists have a lot to answer for these days. They seem to have the need to justify their jobs by going overboard. The desire for information is leading to an overkill situation. Birds sport bracelets (this one has been lucky to only have one) and wing tags (Red Kites)......sorry.......rant over.

Nice to see a rail (head up or down)

Thats just spot on, the sharpness of the bird against the detailed but softer background is impressive.

A difficult subject well composed. Lighting and detail just right. Great pose.

that's very nice John, there's something about it that I really like put can't quite put my finger on. I think it's the combination of the soft light and the vertical composition with the water stretching out above the bird.

I'm glad it wasn't committimg suicide. As Matt has commented there is something
je ne sais quoi that sets it apart from the norm. Excellent.

I actually think she looks a bit tarty! Ankle bracklet, cheeky eye and pert tail. Excellant

I always find these a very exciting bird to have in front of you. This would have an even greater imapct if taken with a wide angle, John you will have to get one. Well done. :toast:
