Went to a forestry centre for a display of falcons only to realise we were there on the wrong day! However one of my friends discovered this little chap strolling by so all was not lost. Very exciting as this is the first grass snake I have ever encountered albeit a baby.

Would welcome any comments good or bad

I think it is great Maggie. The only improvement would be seeing its tongue I suppose.
Excellent.

Lovely shot maggie.
Was it hanging off something ?
Great backdrop too.

Thanks both. Yes David I was trying for the tongue but pressing the shutter at just the right time is extremely difficult.

Yes John it was hanging off Ian's finger

Hi Maggie,

your friend must be an idiot to get the day wrong  However he did find the snake

Very nice shot well caught with a rather nice background.

lovely detail and exposure and a very pleasant background. My only nit would be that it does look as though the snake is suspended in mid air. I'm envious though as I've never had such a close-up experience of a grass snake.

Great shot Maggie. Beautifully exposed and detailed. It looks as though it wants to be a tree snake when it grows up.

Tongue or no tongue, this is a nice portrait. Agree with Matt about in hanging in the air to some extent, but it is still a fine image.

Cheers,
Chris
