This is the second perch I can cover from my hide. The whitewash suggests that this is a regular one but I've only seen him use it once in the seven evenings I've been there. He is also a little closer than I'd really like. I really think this works better as a vertical, but sadly I only see the one eye in those ones I shot. Secondly I think the image will be better when the thistles bloom fully. Lastly a little more light would help reduce the noise.
Thoughts?
You're to self critical John. The image is well composed and the detail in the owl is very fine particularly the eyes. A little work in PS to liven the background very slightly. Were it mine I'd be well pleased.
I'd echo Pauls views on this one John. I think the comp is fine as it is, though for editorial purposes a little more space would be good. However, that said these pictures are presented for review and critique as they stand and for me this works well. This image is great, the ones you may take later when thistle in bloom etc may well be better but if I were you I'd be well content with this for now. Let's live for the present! Nice one.

Very nice John.
The thistles dont help however but i am sure with a little effort you could tie/hold them back from the post. The bird is just the job pose and look work well.

I too would be well pleased with John, I think it's a cracking shot of a Little Owl, lovely detail throughout the image, nicely done.
