Hey folks,
I am a flatlander making my first trip out to Salida and Ouray in about 1 week. I will have two teenage boys with me and so plan to spend a day or two whitewater rafting and hiring a jeeptour in both places. I will prob also rent a jeep myself for some non-technical roads and photo spots.

I am looking for recommmendations on motels/food/rafting/jeep operators. Also for some good photo ops within a three mile one way hike on a very easily marked trail.

I plan to hit Yankee Boy Basin while in Ouray and any other spots that you folks reccomend. I like waterfalls and moving water also. Also anyathing else for the boys like the ziplines etc.

This may not be exactly what you were looking for, but the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge train runs through some beautiful country and along the way there is a stop at a place that has zip lines.

If you rent a jeep, take Imogene Pass out of Ouray and over to Telluride. It is a non-technical jeep road, easy to drive, but it has sections that are narrow shelf roads, not recommended if you don't like heights. Gorgeous drive and there are also some old mining ruins on the way. There are also a couple waterfalls on the way. Just at the end of the canyon in Telluride is Bridal Veil Falls, a 300 foot waterfall, the highest in Colorado. You can take a dirt road right up to the falls. You can also take the highway over to Telluride which would be about a 45-60 minute drive.

How much time do you have to spend in the area?

Scott, Thanks for the help....John, I have about a week...I am leaving Arkansas this Friday and will probably not return until next Friday or Saturday. I hoping for the wildflowers in the foreground smoe snow on the peaks in the backgroung kind of shots. Lake reflections, you name it. I am not doing macro as of yet so I think that is out.

I am in average shape. I can play a couple of sets of singles tennis and feel pretty rough the next day. The last time I was skiing was about 7 years ago so no time at altitude since then .

My boys will not want to spend all the time out in nature that I will, especially the early mornings. So I plan to spend a couple of days hitting my stuff early and then doing things with them in the mid day and early evening. I have a whole lost of things I want to do but I ralize that even with a week I need to be selective.
