Zion Narrows
I spent the last week of June roaming the Colorado Plateau and for the first time got to take a tripod up into the Zion Narrows. I had visited the park in the past and even waded up the river one afternoon but this was the first chance I got to really photograph it.

Talk about a place that you need several days! I kept stopping so often for yet another picture, I hardly made any progress.

For those who have yet to go there- start early (before 8am-fewer crowds), Ziplock your gear (I'd say skip the long lenses and just go wide), have good footwear (I had Keen sandels) and get a pair of hiking poles (Wally World has a set for $18).

Anyway, here is one of my first stops. This is on a 50D with a Sigma 10-20 at 10mm and is a 3 shot HDR.

Nice!
Great colors, and I like that little patch of rapids down there in the corner.
A fairly uncommon view of the Narrows. Outstanding use of HDR here, too.

This may be the best work I have ever seen from you, Darren. Great job!

Like the motion in the water and the detail in the rocks.

Thanks all. Even without direct sun, you can still have situations of higher contrast so I was bracketing everyting there. I have played around with both single exposure and multi exposure and at least in this case, the hdr wins.
