Mammoth Sunset
With evil looking skies like I could see why in the past people would be afraid of the mountains. I would wonder what was coming out of the sky?

Here is yet another shot from Minaret Lake with the camera turned in the opposite direction. Off in the distance is western side of Mammoth Mountain and and Red Slate Mountain(Preston could you double check that j/k), which is the very small diamond shaped peak with it's own set of clouds. I wonder if there was a photographer over there? For this was a memorable sunset that caught me off guard.

This is a 3 shot vertical pano.
I sized the 3 images to only a 35 pixel jpegs for speed purposes just see what it would look like stitched but I got a little carried away and have to redo the rough draft. The compression is noticealbe where I did some darkening. Hopefully I don't run into problems there with the Tiff file.

Glad you posted this Steve, as for me it was out of view! It sucks when we get such amazing light, and aren't at all ready for it, but I think you did a good job catching this one given the surprise.

I wonder if it would of been out of view from the tarn above and around the corner?

Eastern sierras often has great weather patterns while on the west people are just miserable.

Wow those clouds are crazy. The view looking east is great. The depth between the MG and BG is really cool. I love the top 90% of this, but the diagonal line of snow at the bottom is very strong and a little distracting.

What a great sky! The pockets of reds and blues are wonderful. I too am a bit ambivalent about the sliver of snow at the bottom of the frame... I wish there was a bit more to fully frame the image. Nice work!

Great sky! What a display. The foreground isn't thrilling me that much, but I do like the sky.

An amazing sky, Steve. This truly is a trademark of the eastern sierras.
