Indian Peaks Wilderness - Colorado
I drove up the west side of the Moffat Road to Rollins Pass yesterday. Headed north into the Indian Peaks Wilderness along the Continental Divide Trail/High Lonesome Trail. Didn't have to go far at all to find some fantastic photo ops. I cropped this to 4x5 to remove some extraneous clear sky.
Both sunrise and sunset from up here could be magical. Will definitely have to return.
What's the condition of the Rollins Pass road? Last time I was up there it was looking decidedly iffy for the clearance of my Subaru. I've been meaning to take a drive to see, but I'd appreciate whatever you've got. I'd like to make it up to Forest Lakes this year.

The west side road is no problem with a high clearance vehicle (I have a stock 2WD XTerra). I think a low clearance vehicle like a sedan could make it as well, you just need to be more careful picking your path over the ruts and around the bigger rocks. I haven't driven the east side road in several years but I remember it being rougher than the west side road. I wouldn't take a sedan up the east side road unless I didn't care if it got beat up.
Let me preface my comments by noting that I was born and raised in the SE part of the country. 4WD vehicles aren't really necessary there and Forest Service roads do not compare with the ones here in Colorado. I am pretty timid when tackling a FS road here in Colorado by myself.

Doug, this shot is really nice. I love mountains when they still have patchy snow among the greenery and rugged rocks. Great stuff!
