Hi Lance. I can't get out early enough for a sunrise shoot this summer but I'd be glad to discuss locations and options for you.
You looking for birds, landscapes, or something else?

Thanks very much, Matt. I'm looking for landscapes.
When I know exactly where I'll be staying (probably near the RTP airport), I'll let you know.
I lived in Raleigh for a year in '90-'91, and I remember getting lost driving all the time. My sense of direction stinks, especially where the roads aren't straight and change names.
So I'm hoping someone will be interested in going out with me.
For landscapes in this area, I am very partial to Jordan Lake for sunrise photography. Other areas worth considering are Raven Rock State Park (south section), Eno River State Park, Weymouth Woods (in Southern Pines) for wide open longleaf pine barrens forests, and the Haw River.

I'm buying your gas and breakfast.

You can see examples of all of these on my website.
