Diamond Grove Prairie Sunset
The hike in to this spot last Saturday began from over the horizon you see in this image. The discomfort of the long, hot trek was reduced to an afterthought by the appreciation of the simple beauty that surrounded us in every direction.

Our surroundings made me wonder what it must have been like to see & experience an endless sea of prairie like this 200 years ago. It's enough to bring one to tears, both for the realization of what's been lost and for the appreciation of the small wonders that remain thanks to the diligent and forward thinking efforts of a few good people (I'm speaking of you Don among others).

Thanks isn't enough to offer so I would encourage each of you to find a way to volunteer in your local communities and give back by helping not only to preserve what remains but by helping to restore new areas to original beauty for future generations to enjoy.

Two shot composite: 5D, 24-70L @ 24 mm; Sky 1/10 sec, Prairie 0.7 sec + 0.5 exp bias, f/13, ISO 100, MF

Great capture Wayne. It must have been a long hot hike with lots of bugs to make it, but it was worth it..
I like how the few yellow flowers in the lower right lead you into the shot and then continue to the field of yellow and then onto the yellow in the sunset. Great comp.

Wayne, a very nice image and you have done an excellent job with the blend. Can I ask you what technique you used for blending the two photos together?

Wayne your best prairie image yet. I love the sky in this one.

I appreciate your soliloquy Wayne. My exact sentiments at times when I'm out and enjoying nature.

I agree with Gale that that the sky is great but the foreground doesn't seem quite right. The closest light ok but it seems like it should fade to be darker as it reaches the horizon. Just my opinion.

I didn't know Missouri had such nice prairies. It looks like your efforts were worth it to visit this one. Hopefully this weekend will be a little nicer.

Beautiful sunset and excellent comp. I like the complimentary colors in the foreground flowers and the sunset sky.

Man, what a whiner! Wayne, it was 7:00 when we headed back to the location where you shot this...the temperature couldn't have been over 90.

Really a great job on the sky, but I have to agree with Ken about where the sky and prairie meet. The prairie does look a bit too light...

You guys should have hollered! Diamond Grove Prairie is my home stomping grounds. My wife and I were out there in the morning (before it got hot.) This place is special and I do appreciate having it in the area. I've posted several pictures from there over the years. Wayne you did a good job of composing, keeping the cell phone towers out of the image. Great image.
