We've gone close to a month without rain on Kodiak..... must be something of a record. And we need it badly.

I've found the perfect antidote: Schedule a fly-out for wildlife photography! We're flying to the south end of Kodiak Island Friday morning for four days with bears. And the current forecast is for the rain to start midday, and you guessed it, to continue for the next four days.

Need rain? Book a wildlife fly-out!!!

We're going on a preliminary scout and shoot, first step on a commercial shoot of the facility later with models. Bears are at peak right now, but wildflowers will be better in a month.

We don't do any guiding or tours, though there are something like 40 different entities that do so on Kodiak ranging from half-day fly outs to multi-day boat charters, and from full scale lodges to guided camps. These two shoots are a commercial contract for one of them.

Sounds as though you have some great opportunities there in Haines too, but suffer in large part from the same things we do: It's a long ways to most other serious photographers. I think the Alaska NP forum will be great for solving some of the isolation all of us suffer up here. Even the folks in the cities feel it!

So true Hank, I live 35 minutes from Anchorage - and I'm probably moving all the way into Anchorage this fall/winter, since I work there. But even with all these people around, I do feel a bit cut off & this forum really helps counteract that.
William, looking forward to your continued participation on the forum - we don't have a lot of representation from SE Alaska, so WELCOME! :wavey:

Hank, I hope you are wrong about your forecast summary - I'm going to be in Katmai early August & I'm hoping for decent weather!

Well, my instincts were good. Along with the rain we got dense fog and were unable to fly out today. And the forecast for the next four days looks even worse. So we've rescheduled for late in August.

And in the meantime we're getting much-needed rain! :toast:

Who would ever think anyone would be celebrating rain on Kodiak?

Celebration over........

I sure hope you folks in the interior are getting some of this rain. We have all we needed and then some.
