My wife and I took a trip up to the Snowy Range on Monday. When driving toward Centennial I couldn't believe the number of Beetle kill trees on the hillsides. They were double from last year. I was pleasently surprised as we drove up to the top to see the number decline. The upper meadows were blooming and it looked like this weekend would be great. There are a couple of places that I found some great images. Along the way up on the right there is a small stream that goes under the road. Follow it up there's a nice water fall that tumbles into a bowl. Also pull over in a couple of the larger turn offs on the right and walk up over the hill the views are fantastic. Just after mile marker 38 there is a right hand turn dirt road. Go up about 1/4 mile and on both sides the flowers , old stumps, and fallen trees offer some great shooting. Some of the camp ground roads are still shut off due to snow. Take along bug spray the mosquitoes are quite active. P.S. The old log store as you enter Centennial on the left has great home made pie!
Thanks for the info Don! One of my favorite areas to shoot. In fact, I know exactly where the spot in you image is at! Hoping to head up there within the next couple weeks.
Last summer I drove through there on my way to Saratoga, and the beetle kill was awful on the west side of Snowy Range road. Good to hear that maybe its been mitigated a bit - maybe it was cold enough this winter to kill off some of 'em.
Good call on the Centennial general - those folks in there are really great to us 'strangers' from the south. The West Laramie Fly Shop is also a great little spot to fuel up and buy a fishing license if that's your thing.
