Cygnet Scene
1D2n, 600mm f4 is, 1/320s, f6.3, iso 400. Fill flash -2.33.

The effects here are caused by the unusual light (storm clouds, setting sun, light rain) rather than my processing. The cygnet was closer to the background than usual, which is formed by reeds and overhanging grasses. I realise it might be a bit strong for some and would like to hear what you think.

This is very good Ian. Camera angle is excellent. The light falls perfectly on the main subject which is beautifully framed by the glowing background. Wonderful colouring and a well balanced composition.

Definitely not too strong for me Ian. Good composition, subject and the all important lighting have combined for a stunning image of a common species.

Two excellent shots, are you using a floating hide?

Thanks all

Mike

are you using a floating hide?

No, the pond has a man-made outlet like a small weir. I sit below that in a small stream, so the lens is actually at the water level. It's at it's best in winter with low sunshine from directly behind - although the past few days haven't been too bad

Almost has the feel of a painting about it Ian, really great to see your pond work delivering the goods again - the other cygnet was magical and perfect for an ironic "ugly duckling" title

Beautiful image again Ian. Were it mine I may have framed it slightly tighter so as to lose a little foreground.

I'm not sure about the background but I really like the overall image. Beautiful :wavey:
