White-winged Scoters in Fairbanks
I found this pair of males on the Airport Float Ponds last night. Hank Pennington may get to see rafts of these guys in the winter, but they are pretty uncommon in Fairbanks, especially in the fall.

The 60% crop makes the shot grainy; they were quite a ways off-shore.

Wow! Now Fairbanks is inland, ala harlequins, isn't it. We get them in huge rafts right in front of the house in winter, but I gotta say none of my shots are more than LBDs (Little Black Dots). They're popular fare among local waterfowl hunters here, and as a result are not even a little camera-friendly in season or out.

Very nice shot Jim! Great light, exposure, pose and framing. I'm impressed that even with the crop, there's very little grain- Certainly not enough to matter in my experience anyway.
