Last week, me Monte and I went down to Crested Butte for a couple of days - the flowers were amazing. Washington Gulch was great, some on Kebler, not much on Gothic, though.
I just started processing (working backwards) and thought a couple of these might be of interest... these were from our last day, diving home a different way, over Tomichi Creek Road. I had a blast shooting handheld, looking for foreground blur with my 70-200.
The mosquitoes and biting flies were of plague proportions - beware.
Still lots more to sort through, will post more if I find some keepers.
I find the DOF with the butterfly a little bothersome. I think it would be better to have both winds in focus, but that is difficult to get unless it is willing to pose for you. Otherwise the colors in the image compliment each other very well and the composition is well done.
The flowers and red "spots" (from other flowers?) are very nice and a good concept as others noted. But the flowering branch in the backside provides a leading line up and out of the image and my eyes stayed trapped in the upper left corner. If the branch was out of focus I think the image would be even stronger.
Both of these are nice Nat!. Butterflies are really hard to get the right amount DOF, my only nit with #1 is I wish the entire body as in focus. I really like the idea of #2, the colours work well togther, the one stem as Steve mentioned is a slight distraction, but not a deal breaker!.

Love the concept in #2. Great color and design. I too am a bit distracted by the upper left corner - due to how the contrast and depth of field seems to break with the rest of the image. Not really a big though, just my first impression. Excellent vision!
Thanks for the comments and suggestions! I found this kind of shooting more challenging than I expected it would be.... but loads of fun and I am looking forward to trying this again. (I was inspired to do this from Tony Sweet's books.)

I'm with Stan that they both are good images.
