it must be a 'small white orchid' - Gymnadenia albida.

I took quite a few close ups of these, but I prefer this "in situ" shot overall as it gives a sense of scale of the bloom. A new species for me.

Oly E3, 50mm macro, iso 100, 1/160s at f3.2, full frame. Stubitai mountains, Austria.

Nice image Mike, would a lower viewpoint enhance the image a bit? Nevertheless good stuff!

would you believe they have changed the name again, they are now known as Pseudorchis albida, I wish they would make their minds up about flower naming. This is the 4th time I know of that they've renamed this orchid, previous names are Leucorchis albida, Gymnadenia albida and Habenaria albida.

I like these environmental shots, too, although I wonder if the two yellow blobs at the top draw the eye away from the main bloom a bit too much?
Also, the white of the orchid looks a little blown out on my screen.
Otherwise, it's a nicely-framed picture.

Danielle, I'm working from the Collins C Grey-Wilson/Marjorie Blamey guide, its the only decent guide I've found on European Alpines and it is getting a bit old now!

Rene - I'm geeting too old for this crawling on your belly stuff!

Jeremy - I agree a slight framing crop would be better. I was in two minds, the vertical stems draw my eye too much rather than the yellow flowers

hope people don't get too bored, but the Alpine season was late and bindingly good this year so a few more images to come yet

A good shot and good to see the wider picture with the flowers immediate surroundings.

Good the see the surrounding especially as the flower stands out so well because of the contrast between white and the backgound black. A nice guidebook picture.

A very nice enviro shot that works well for me. I haven't seen this species before so thanks for posting.
