Mysterious paper shavings.. epson printer

In the last couple prints I've tried to make I've had some weird paper shavings, likely from when I used a roll earlier, fall onto my sheets before the ink gets on the paper. That leaves me with a little piece of paper that then comes off, leaving a white mark on the print. How do you clean the print of these shavings? I've never had this before... even when printing 50 20x30's off a roll continuously. I'm using an epson 7880, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Floris - If I understand your description correctly, I've had this happen before too, and I think it's more a problem with the coating from the paper than a cutter-specific issue.

What happens is that imperfections in the the inkjet receptor coating crack, split and fall off, leaving tiny pieces floating around inside the printer, and/or it comes off after the print is made.

This can be caused by the cutting process, too... along the cut edge, the coating is more likely to crack and fall off.

On occasion I have had success touching the print up with a colored marker but this all depends on where the white mark falls. (Blue sky, forget it - reprint).

Some papers do this more than others; I've had the most problems with Harman FB AL gloss.

When you're printing sheets, make sure to give them a good shake before loading them. Don't brush the surface (as with a drafting brush) - it will likely scratch.

Also, you can use compressed air to periodically blow out the inside of the printer - but NOT canned air - too much spitting of residual fluid. (I've used a small hand blower with COs canisters, like for a pellet gun.) An air compressor with moisture filtration is best.

Thanks Nat.. I'm using Harman FB AL... so yea, it's probably exactly what you're describing! Good point on the canned air, I'll have to find some CO2 canister blowers.
