Hey Gang,

I was wondering if someone could recommend a good book or on-line tutorial about fine art printing. I'm looking into getting a pro-level printer at some point but would like to make an educated decision about what to look for in a printer. Info I'm interested in is, how to go about selecting a printer, what types of paper are available and how inks will react to different paper types, pro's and con's of different types/styles of printers...stuff like that. My goal is to be able to do my own fine art printing at home...up to 20in wide. I'm tired of uploading images and having them printed across the country only to have it come back needing more "tweeking". Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Kate,

Lots of sources out there, but here is a fair starting point with links to a couple of others. Cruise around the site and you'll find even more, including reviews on a wide variety of products.

That's the one I was really looking for John! Thanks. It's the best in my book.

Check out "Fine Art Printing for Photographers" by Stienmuller and Gulbins. Good rundown of the various printers plus technigues.

Steinmuller and Gulbins is the best book that I have found. It is quite "in depth" and has lots of online references as well.

The online tutorial that John recommended is excellent. I used it when I started.
